To help you prepare for your trip and enjoy your stay during the SEEFF x FIATA REU 2026 Congress, we have gathered some practical information about the city, local customs, and useful tips.
Local transport
Bucharest has a well – connected public transport system: metro, buses, trams, and trolleybuses.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and validated before boarding.
The metro is usually the fastest option during peak hours.
Ride – hailing apps and taxis are also widely available.
Currency and payments
The local currency is the Romanian Leu (RON).
1 EUR ≈ 5.0 – 5.1 RON (approximate, check updated rates).
International credit/debit cards are widely accepted.
ATMs are easily found across the city and at the airport.
Currency exchange offices and banks are available, but we recommend using official banks or exchange points for reliability.
Language
The official language of Romania is Romanian.
English is commonly spoken in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas.

Official language of the event
The official language of SEEFF x FIATA REU is English.
No interpretation/translation services will be provided.
Cell phones
Please switch off your cell phones or set them on silent mode during all official sessions and meetings.
Time zone
Local time: Eastern European Time (EET), UTC+2.
In May, Romania uses Eastern European Summer Time (EEST), UTC+3.
Entry and visa requirements
Romania is part of the EU and Schengen Area.
A valid passport or ID (for EU citizens) is required.
Depending on your nationality, a visa may be required.

Participants are strongly advised to arrange adequate health and travel insurance before arrival.
Electricity and power plugs
Voltage: 230 V, Frequency: 50 Hz.
Plug type: Type C / F (European standard).
Adapters may be needed for non – European plugs.
Smoking and alcohol policy
Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public spaces (restaurants, cafés, venues).
Alcohol consumption is permitted for those 18+, but drinking in public spaces is restricted.
Shopping and business hours
Most shops open between 09:00 – 20:00 (Mon – Sat).
Large malls (AFI Cotroceni, Băneasa Shopping City, ParkLake) are open until 22:00 daily.
Grocery stores and some shops may be open on Sundays.
Tipping
Tipping is customary in Romania, especially in restaurants, as a sign of appreciation for good service.
The unwritten rule is to leave about 10% of the total bill.
Weather
In May (event period), Bucharest usually enjoys mild to warm weather: average 20 – 25°C (68 – 77°F) during the day, and cooler evenings.
Occasional rain showers are possible – we recommend bringing a light jacket and umbrella.
